Merivälja Kooli Kosmoseklubi õpib nädala koos Hollandi Rotterdami Gümnaasiumi õpilastega

Merivälja Kooli koostöö Rotterdami Zuider Gümnaasiumiga

5.-11.veebruarini võõrustavad  Merivälja Kooli  kuusteist 7.-8. klassi õpilast ja peret samuti kuutteist Hollandi Rotterdami Zuider Gümnaasiumi eakaaslast, kellega koos on juba alates detsembrist ette valmistatud ühist kosmoseprojekti. Nimelt on moodustatud ainulaadne rahvusvaheline koolinoorte orbitaaljaama koostöögrupp, kes valmistuvad 4 kuu vältel ühiseks „kosmosemissiooniks“ Hollandis Noordwijkis ESA –s ehk  Euroopa Kosmoseagentuuri Simulatsioonikeskuses.

Cooperation with Rotterdam Gymnasium

On Monday (06.02.2017) secondary school students from Rotterdam took part in collective learning with students from Merivälja School. The day begins at 8:00 in Merivälja school, where students got to know each other. Each student got a name tag to make it easier to communicate with each other during the day. Communication is very important and necessary skill and it was also mentioned by the teachers. The first goal was to create a mission. Students gathered in groups to think of a suitable name for the mission and the missions goals and causes. Each group presented their ideas and they were written down. The next task was to write all the ideas goals into one sentence. These sentences were written down and students voted for their favorite sentence. The winner sentence was the goal of the mission and the next step was to name the mission. Again, each group thought of a name, which was written down. A new voting was held and the mission was called Spexit - Space and exit. Now, when the name of the mission and purpose was found, it was necessary to think of the experiments, which are carried out during the mission. Students proposed different experiments and finally there were 10 selected, which will be carried out. Before moving on with the project, each student had to pick a certain job, which purpose the student will be carrying out during the project. After dividing the jobs there was one final task left to do and that was creating the projects logo. Each student sketched a logo and then voted for their favorite logo. After picking out the missions logo the goals of the first day were completed and the students headed home.

On Tuesday (02.07.17) we visited the Estonian National Museum in Tartu, AHHAA Centre and Tõravere Observatory. Bus ride started at 8:00 in the morning. The first stop was the ERM (Estonian National Museum). We arrived about ten o'clock. There were two guides and the students were divided into two groups - Estonian tour and English tour. Groups went along the timeline starting at the ice age until the present day. Students also got a chance to look at the Finno-Ugric permanent exhibition "Ural echo". After one and a half hours, the students were able to proceed to the museum cafe or restaurant. After lunch we continued to the AHHAA centre, where everyone got to discover science and technology through playing, experimenting and discovering. Students who had finished discovering AHHAA passed the time by learning more about Tartu and it was agreed that everyone returned to the bus at 15.45. Tõravere Observatory tour began at 16.30 and lasted till six o'clock. Students were divided into two groups and headed to the telescope, where they got to see the moon through the telescope. On the way back to Tallinn we stopped at a gas station, where students could buy snacks. The bus arrived at school about nine o'clock and then all the students went home.

Kolmapäeval (08.02.2017) tulid Merivälja kooli õpilased koos Rotterdami gümnaasiumi õpilastega kooli kella kaheksaks. Merivälja kooli õpilased jäid kooli ja käisid esimeses neljas tunnis. Rotterdami gümnaasiumi õpilased suundusid Mektorysse. Seal tehti neile lühike ekskursioon ja sellele järgnes robootika töötuba. Samuti said nad seal ka lõunat süüa.

Pärast katse läbiviimist said õpilased koolist lahkuda. Õpilased said juua sooja teed. Nendel kellel külm hakkas said koju minna ja suuremad huvilised jäid kuud vaatlema.

On Thursday (09.02.2017) students came to school by eight o’clock. The goal of the day was to conduct an experiment. The day was mentored by Mart Vihmand. Students were divided into groups. The first group was responsible for building the experiment device. The second group was responsible for the testing and the third group was responsible for videos, pictures and information about the experiment. The experiment was conducted at two o’clock. After the experiment was finished, students got to leave. At six o’clock everyone gathered at Merivälja pier to look at the moon and stars. Merivälja school physics teacher Mart Kuurme was also there. He explained to the students about planets and the stars and showed them where Venus and Mars were with a laser. Students could also see the moon through the telescope. Students got to drink hot tea. Those who were cold got to go home and students who were interested stayed. The event ended at about seven o’clock and all the students headed home.

Saakloomadest said röövloomad ja röövloomadest saakloomad. Pärast mängu lõppu jätkati matkaga. Jõuti Kakerdaja raba loodusrajale. Seal said õpilased üksteise järel kõndida laudteedel ja vaadelda jäätunud järvi.

On Friday (10.02.2017) students came to school by nine o'clock. The day started with an hour-long bus ride to Kõrvemaa. Upon arrival students put on warm gloves and snow pants because there was a 2-3 hour hike ahead. The hike started with a fun game in which the students were divided into pairs and one of the student had to be blindfolded. The second student had to guide his/her friend the tree and the friend had to hug the tree. After touching and hugging the tree, the blindfolded student was guided back to where the pair started . Now, the student had to recognize what tree he/she was guided to. Some students followed their footprints, which were left behind. Other students however, started hugging trees and found their tree by recognising the size and shape of the tree. When the game ended, it was time to start the hike. We walked through the forest, sometimes stopping at a frozen lake. Sometimes we stopped and talked about wild animals and forest growth. Teachers also taught students how to get warm quickly. Approximately one hour later we arrived at a small open field, where students were able to play the next game. The students were given candy. All the students who had taken the same candy were in one group. There were two groups, and some of them were predators, others prey. Predators stood in rows one after the other. Preys goal was to reach the other side of these lines. Each time a student who was a prey came too close to the predator, the student who was playing the predator had to make a sound. The first time a lot of student who were playing prey managed to get to the other side. Then the game was made more difficult and now students who were predators kept their hands on the sides. The second time many students didn’t make it to the other side. The group roles were switched so the game wouldn’t  become boring and then students played the same game again. When the game ended we continued the hike. It was Kakerdaja marsh natural path. Students walked one after another on the board walk and saw the frozen lakes. When we reached Kakerdaja bog lake, students took off their backpacks and enjoyed hot tea. Some students were also playing hawk to get warm. The lake was frozen and in the middle of it someone had built a snowman. When the tea was drunk and games were played we went back to the camping site where the bus was going to pick us up and ride to Valgehobusemägi (White horse hill) ski and recreation centre. Lunch was eaten at Valgehobusemäe cafe and students who had time left over were able to explore the surrounding area. At 14:30 the bus began to drive back toward the school and the bus was in front of the school by 15.30. Then students got to head home.
